Coaxial triangles Two triangles ABC and A′B′C′ are coaxial if the points of intersection of AB with A′B′, AC with A′C′, and BC with B′C′ are collinear. cobordism theory The branch of algebraic topology that studies the boundaries of manifolds. cobweb See web diagram. cochleoid The snail-like spiral that is the perspective projection of a circular helix. Its equation in polar form is . cochloid See conchoid of Nicomedes. codeclination The complement of an angle of declination. codomain The range of a function.

Compound curve A connected curve made up of parts of circles that are tangent at their points of intersection. compound polygon A polygon determined by a set of congruent regular polygons with a common center. For example, the Star of David is a compound polygon formed from two equilateral triangles. compound polyhedron A polyhedron that is the union of a set of congruent regular polyhedra with a common center. For example, the stellated octahedron is a compound polyhedron formed from two tetrahedra.

Braid A finite collection of disjoint vertical curves or strands in threedimensional space. The strands may weave over and under each other. Two braids are equivalent if one can be deformed into the other while keeping the endpoints of the strands fixed. braid group A group whose elements are braids with a fixed number of strands. The group operation is defined by joining the endpoints at the top of one braid to the endpoints at the bottom of the other braid. braid index For a knot, the least number of strands in a braid that can be transformed into the knot by joining endpoints at the top of the braid to corresponding endpoints at the bottom of the braid.
